Happy Birthday Donna Karan!

Today I'm writing my blog on a gorgeous roof terrace! Boundary has a great atmosphere and you can enjoy the sunshine with a view over the city. From this wonderful scenario, it's time for another fashion birthday...

63 years ago, a woman was born to change the way women dress for ever - Donna Karan.

You cannot think about New York without remembering her. Donna Karan became synonymous with the city and urban women juggling careers and family life.

After her first collection in 1985, the label has expanded more and more and it's now an international established business. The 'Queen of Seventh Avenue' continues to attract different generations of consumers.

Her slick and clean style totally merges with city life. You see the Donna Karan woman running around and having a busy schedule, and has been represented by Demi Moore and Cate Blanchett.

The 90s were particularly powerful for the label with successful campaigns such as the one presenting a woman being sworn in as President of the United States in 1992, photographed by Peter Lindbergh.

Hillary Clinton, who was a leading candidate for the Democratic presidential nomination, wore Donna Karan's Cold Shoulder dress for the first state dinner.

Donna Karan definitely empowers women through her collections, using fashion as a way to celebrate womanhood.

Her latest collection was inspired in her extended stay in Haiti, tribal patterns adorned circle skirts and shoulder revealing dresses.

But her life is not just about fashion, she also promotes alternative therapies for cancer patients, who are close to her heart, after loosing her husband to the disease in 2001.

Donna Karan's way of looking at life helped her to stand on her feet and move forward. This inner energy is conveyed by her clothes and that's probably why she continues to be such a success.

Happy Birthday Donna Karan!
