Digging Deeper: Scoop Fashion

It's always a pleasure to attend Scoop International. This directional, boutique fashion trade show is developing further with the participation of more labels without becoming overwhelming. Inspirational fashion is paramount so you can expect different design aesthetics but still commercially focused.

Scoop style is wearable without being boring or mainstream, there's always something special that would suit independent boutiques and their fashion savvy customers. I was particularly impressed with the fabulous prints by Modern Love! This is definitely a brand to look out for.

Another favourite is Babe, its magnificent jewellery and trendy clutch bags can give a new life to even the most basic outfit. This brand is not for the faint-hearted but for those who love a bit of sparkle. For a busy social schedule, other labels also offer creative clutch bags, perfect for a night out.

Scoop is definitely focused on business, attracting a wide range of buyers who regularly attend the show to place orders and ensure an eclectic collection of labels in their boutiques. This event features not only emerging brands but also established ones such as Hoss Intropia, a classic for women who love something different without being over the top.

Ethical fashion is often compromising, usually adopting a style which is either too retro or simply uninteresting. There is still a long way to go but it's important to acknowledge the effort of going against the tide and create something that does not cause any harm. This is the case of Beyond Skin, where you cannot find any leather but only recycled materials.

I was told Livia Firth will wear the brand while continuing to embrace her green carpet challenge campaign so maybe the design will evolve in a different direction. It would be interesting to see what someone like Nicholas Kirkwood would do if he was asked to design a capsule collection for the label.

Scoop International Fashion Show is carefully curated and jewellery is no exception. There are beautiful pieces to choose from: Konplott is always inspiring, Pink Powder is gaining momentum and Angela Caputi is incredibly sophisticated. I also love this black lace dress by Princesse Metropolitaine although this label is more suited for girlie types.

Alice McCall is definitely more grown up with some really interesting pieces, it's also imperative to mention Sunpocket (no more excuses for destroying your sunglasses) and the quirky fashion illustration bags by Barbara Rihl. This is just a selection of what caught my eye during the latest edition of Scoop. Isn't it fabulous?
